Yes, I know I'm a few days behind.
December 25
It was a very quiet day as it usually is. Luddite Granny came for supper because she's a household of one and was allowed under the current restrictions. ScienceGirl, who's been here on and off since the beginning of December because, well that's a story for another day, and I watched some Scandi Noir story on GEM. Not really appropriate for Christmas Night but that's what it was. I started to watch A Christmas Carol, the 1952 version in black and white with Alistair Sim, none of this Bill Murray or George C. Scott nonsense, but I'm still working my way through it.
December 26
For the first time in 30 years, I was able to have a lie in on Boxing Day. Every year since I got married, except for the year everybody was sick, I've had to trek up to Collingwood for two days with my in-laws. I hate it. It was worse when the kids were little - I'd have to drag them away from their toys and pack all the shit they needed for two days plus snow gear in case we got stuck on the road somewhere, because the weather was always shitty either going there or coming back. For 28 years, I had to stay for two nights and come home on the 28th after breakfast. We ran out of things to talk about after the first 6 hours so it was a bit awkward. I finally started taking my knitting so I wasn't just sitting there staring out the window. Somehow we managed to leave after lunch on the 27th a couple of years ago (I can't remember why - oh yes, Himself doesn't like to drive at night anymore especially on the back country, twisty, dark roads) which set a precedent.
This year, thanks to Covid, all of us and my sister-in-law's family couldn't gather at the same time. Drunken Oma has a very tiny house and there's no way we could have distanced ourselves with 9 adults. She's 88 so we do have to be a bit careful. We ended up going on the 18th, just for the day and supper which was okay. The weather was still shit on the way home.
December 27
Back into lock-down and no churches open. The one I had been going to decided to take a break from the YouTube church on the 27th so there wasn't even that to watch.
The city puts on Illuminations around the town starting early November.
This building is the old post office, now another branch of the library. They project several 15 minute light shows onto the building, sometimes incorporating the architectural features of the building in the show. It's really quite clever. It's the same company that does the light shows on the Parliament Building. So I dragged the Trouts to see this and then walk around the rest of the downtown to see some more installations. In normal times I would have made them go into a cafe for a hot chocolate but as we know, these are not normal times. But they didn't hate it as much as they let on.
December 28
Himself went into work for a bit. I had to do some wash - we were running out of underwear. It is nice not having to do anything or go anywhere. Nothing's open anyway except the Tim's and I just couldn't be bothered to put pants on to go and get a coffee. ScienceGirl and I managed to take the Mad Wee Dog for a walk tonight. We haven't been walking for a couple of weeks and I missed it. Now with the gym closed, I'll be back at it more often. I knitted myself a balaclava last year, which according to SG makes me look like a terrorist, but I need to mend it; MWD got a hold of it. At some point, I'll get some insulated pants and I'm good to go in any weather.
Back tomorrow with the 5th day of Christmas.
Stay sane.
