The Sixth Day of Christmas

 December 30

We ventured into the big city of Toronto this morning to take some of ScienceGirl's stuff back to her apartment.  She's been living there with her girlfriend for 2 years doing a Master's degree at the U of T.

But at the end of November, her girlfriend, PrairieGirl (because she is from Saskatoon) dumped her and went back to Saskatoon.  She has a job she's been doing remotely since April and will continue to do that from out West and has no intention of coming back to Toronto to live.

It hit SG like a bolt out of the blue - she did not see it coming.  And she is of course totally devastated.  And confused because PrairieGirl gave a reason that didn't make a lot of sense, and provided more questions than answers.  PG asked for "space to process things" so SG couldn't even express her feelings or ask her questions. Since the break-up she's spent, I think, only one or two nights alone in her apartment.  And she FaceTimed me in tears each night.  She's been commuting back and forth to her lab for pretty much all of December.

PG came back a couple of days ago to pick up her shit and ship it back to Sask. SG had to buy a new bed, a new tv and a new microwave to replace the ones that belonged to PG. So off we set bright and early this morning to get her new stuff set up and to get her used to the half empty apartment before Sunday when she has to go back to live.  I went along for moral support, to dole out the hugs when the tears flowed, to provide a distraction of going to Tim's or Shoppers or somewhere to get her out of the apartment while Himself put the new bed together.

But I was surplus to requirements happily.  She didn't end up as a big hot mess on the floor.  In fact, she just started getting angry and more angry at PG.  PG left a lot of her stuff behind, including the microwave so now SG has to deal with it when she moves out in a few months.  She was not impressed at all.

It's been an emotional roller coaster of a month but I think we're over the worst of it.

Roll on 2021!

Stay sane
