Why Boys Make Better Check-out Girls

They don't give a shit.

They don't care about the weather or what you think of the weather; they don't care how you are;  they don't care if you found everything you were looking for (they may ask because they're getting paid to, but they really don't give a shit); they don't care that there is a sale on ground beef.  They don't waste any time talking to you.

This was made very clear to me on Easter week-end.

Had to nip into the grocery store the Thursday night  before Easter for some essentials like bread and milk  chips and chocolate, completely forgetting it was the night before a holiday and as such the store would be jam-packed.  Every one of the 10 tills was open; I've never seen it like that, not even at Christmas.

The boy ringing through my groceries had one of those names that should actually be a first name, like McKenzie or Bronson or Smith.  He glanced up, said "Hi" and went back to scanning.  The next thing he asked was if I needed a bag and finally, "That'll be $So Many Dollars.  Thanks".

That was it. Done. And I liked it.
