And So It Begins

Himself is home today, as he was yesterday. He's not unwell, nor is he on holidays. No, Himself is out of work. His company was bought out back in the summer and his plant was one of the casulties. So, he's looking for a job.

The last time he was looking for work was 18 years ago. Things have changed a lot since then. Everything is done on-line - job postings, applying for jobs, any communication. Apparently, HR departments have some kind of computer program that goes through your application and selects all the key words that were in the original ad. If you don't have the right words, you're outta there.

It is kinda weird having him around all day. The kids and I have a routine and his presence does disrupt it. He came into the kitchen at 10 to 12 to make himself some lunch. Lunchtime here is 12:30 so he had to wait. I feel like I'm being watched. If I'm not cooking or cleaning the whole day, I hear an unspoken criticism. Sometimes he even says he doesn't know what I do all day. Nice. This morning I actually told him I had changed my mind about vacuuming today and would do it tomorrow instead. Holy smokes! I could have kicked myself. He'd better find a job soon or I'll be looking for work.
