Stay at Home Chapter 3 - Day 42 + 2

 Saturday May 22

Warm again today but cloudy so it didn't feel too uncomfortable and there was a nice breeze.  There was a chance of rain which we got - all 5 drops of it.

The big news of the day - HistoryBoy's 18th birthday.  We tried to make the most of it but, well we tried.  I dug out a happy birthday banner I had kicking around and put some balloons on his chair. HB wanted steak and lobster for his dinner so we ordered take-out from the Keg.  It was pretty good - I've found that places which  weren't used to doing take-out before the pandemic and then had to "pivot" (Jesus I hate that word), usually don't do very well.  But this was decent enough.  We set off fireworks in the park down the street, totally illegal, but I'm past caring at this point.  Our little display attracted quite a crowd as well. There were a few other people who set off fireworks so the MWD spent the evening in the basement.  There'll probably be more again tomorrow.  Not too many people do fireworks for Victoria Day anymore; it's all about Canada Day now.  I'm not sure when July 1st became the main firecracker day but when I was growing up Victoria Day was the only day for fireworks.  And, oh good lord, it could be cold. We were always bundled up in coats and blankets and I remember it snowed one year.  Maybe that's why fireworks  got switched to Canada Day - less chance of snow.

Until tomorrow.  Stay sane.
