Monday May 3
Grocery day again today. The store seemed busier than usual - don't know why and there seemed to be a fair number of children there as well. Aren't they supposed to be doing on-line school? They've probably all given up; I don't really blame them. I don't expect the kiddies to be back in school this year.
The Zehrs had its garden centre open (it's been open for a couple of weeks) so I stopped in to see if there were any dogwoods. I wasn't planning to go there but as I was driving out of the parking lot, I thought I'd just nip in to see. And sure enough there were a few on the table. No annuals yet though, well some pansies and geraniums but that's all. But I wasn't looking for flowers, I was just focused on getting a dogwood. Which I did. Himself dug out the old one on the week-end so I'll just did out more of the roots and add some nice soil and plant the new one, hopefully later this week but it's supposed to be quite rainy. There are some fairly large maple saplings in that area that I'll be able to properly dig out as well. And some daylilies that have become a little aggressive. Without the dogwood in there, I'll be able to get the area tidied up nicely.
I received the census in the mail today. Well, not the actual census but a bit of paper with a Secure Access Code which will enable me to fill it out on-line. I tried a few minutes ago but of course, the site is too busy. Remember when census takers used to come to your door to hand out the paper form you then had to fill in and mail off. I did that job a couple of times; it was hard work for not much money, piece work if I recall. I had a few doors slammed in my face so that was nice. There was a ledger you had to fill in as you went door to door recording the address and the number on the census so you could record who had not filled in the form. All the forms got returned to us and we had to go through each one to make sure they were filled out completely and properly. If they weren't, we had to phone the household to get the right answers. I had the phone hung up on me a few times so that was nice. Like I said, a lot of work for not much money.
Until tomorrow. Stay sane.
