Monday April 19
I did the groceries this morning although I don't know why I bothered. I only needed about 4 things. I had to do employ some fancy footwork to avoid ramming into the backend of some old dear who stopped right in the middle of the end of an aisle to look at her watch. The check-out lady must have been bored this morning because she kept me talking for about 5 minutes after I had bagged my groceries. She started off the conversation asking if the roads were busy. And I said you'd never know there was a stay at home order. Then she was telling me that she wanted to get her vaccine so she and her husband could go to the Azores one more time. He's from there as are most of the Portuguese in this city and it's so beautiful says the the check-out lady that she can't understand why his parents left. I think there must be a sign over my head that says "Talk to me. I'll stand here and listen to you."
I called Luddite Granny to do a Life Check, you know to make sure she's still alive. I dawned on me that I hadn't spoken to her since Easter Sunday. We're in this lock-down and the days drag on but all of a sudden, 2 weeks have gone by. She is alive, by the way.
I had to phone the doctor's office this afternoon to get her to send my standing orders to the lab because I forgot to ask for them in January and I have to go for my regular bloodwork on Wednesday. The doctor herself called me back to ask if I had received my vaccine yet. No, I was waiting to go to the Region run clinic when I'm eligible. She told encouraged me not to wait but go to the pharmacy to get the Astra-Zeneca shot. Now, I am not vaccine-hesitant and I have no issue getting that particular shot but I am also aware that the pharmacy I would go to is very tiny and I expect way too many people lined up waiting their turn. All those people make me nervous.
Until tomorrow. Stay sane.
You make the daily round sound amusing. You got your dose of people for a while. Get that vaccine too!
