Why does the Children's Department at Chapters, you know, the bookstore, have more toys than books?
Why is there so much choice of Christmas lights? Or maybe the question should be Why to we think we need so much choice in Christmas lights? Pure white, warm white, cool white, twinkling, little globe bulbs, white cord, green cord. Ack!
Why does it always come to this? I know that Christmas comes on the 25th of December. Every year. Without fail. I know I can't shop at night when the stores are full of annoying people so I have to go during the day; I know how long it takes to put up the decorations; I know when the Trouts finish school for the holidays and I like to have the pressies all wrapped up by then. And I've even cut out a few things - I've not done any baking and am not likely to; I haven't sent out any cards. If I do, they'll be New Year's cards. This is not my first Christmas and yet I'm starting to panic and feel overwhelmed.
Since when did I become Father Bloody Christmas? It's like I have to "put on" Christmas for the rest of them but there are 2 other people who live here who are capable of retrieving a box of decorations from the basement, bringing it upstairs, and a third who is capable of emptying it. I asked Lego Boy if he was going to help me put up the remaining decorations; he answered no. I asked who was going to do it if he didn't help. He looked me straight in the eye and said, "You will". The Voice in My Head said Fuck off and I left the room before the Voice in My Head became My Out Loud Voice.

A simple question to ask yourself is: 'do you wear your pants outside the rest of your clothes?'
ReplyDeleteIf the answer is no, then you aren't super woman so you don't need to worry if you don't do everything at break-neck speed and to a high level of perfection. We all have our limits :-)
I know this and I'm embracing the can't be arse attitude.
DeleteThe weight of the Christmas light choice bears down on me too. Ridiculous. Endless LED colour changing shit too. By the way....I notice you follow a Coronation Street blog....is that masochism or are you actually a fan? I am, but don't talk about it much as very few of my friends do!
ReplyDeleteI am a fan and watch religiously. If I miss it on tv, I'll watch online. I'm the only fan living here so I keep it to myself.
DeleteChristmas doesn't happen unless I do it. I have 3 children youngest aged 17, still want every single feckin thing they ever had as children, they now add in boyfriends/girlfriends who also need stuff. I now have a husband and a stepson, does that ease the burden? You know that was rhetorical now, don't you?
