The tube feeder stays up all year, filled with nyger seed for the goldfinches. The winter feeder was put out at the beginning of November, filled with fresh mixed seed meant to attract an assortment of birds.
Within the first few days, a beautiful male cardinal came and had a snack. His missus sat on the clothesline and waited her turn. The sparrows darted about, back and forth between the feeder and the fence and an early chickadee made an appearance.
Since then, nothing. Not one single bird. Not even a pushy crow. Or the omnipresent sparrows. Where did they all go? Is there a feeder down the street with a better selection of seed? Is there a herd of mad cats doing away with all the birds? Or has the weather been so shite that they haven't come out of their cosy nests to find something to eat?
I hope they come back. The birds are my distraction from the -30 temperatures and the 6 feet of snow I have to endure for the next 4 months.
