Random Ruminations of the Season

1) Having a kid home from school sick for 3 days the week before the holidays really blows a hole in your finely-tuned Christmas preparation schedule.

2) Being sick yourself for 3 days blows an even bigger hole in your finely-tuned Christmas preparation schedule.  So much so that some shit just didn't get done.  If you were expecting a Christmas card from me, you'll be disappointed.

3)  I really dislike Lego.  If I have to put together one more creature or vehicle or kit of any kind, I will scream.

4) 6 adults and 3 teen-agers who are larger than most of the adults and a little boy who cannot sit still do not fit comfortably into a 900 sq.ft. house for more than 1 day.  That means that the extra day and a half spent at my MiL's was sheer torture.  Add to the mix an old spinster aunt who can speak English but only speaks Dutch to the one other person in the room who can understand her, who is slowly but surely losing her marbles and it becomes 3 days of hell on earth.

5) I didn't realize that Quality Street chocolates came in a 1kg tin.  But I'm glad they do.

6)  I have to find a better hiding place for the pressies because Girl had found them all.  As I was wrapping these gifts late into the night, I had this urge to just hand them over to her right then.  What was the point of wrapping if she knew what they all were?  Lucky for her, she didn't tell her little brother what he got or she would have received a punch in the head.

7) All the tidying and cleaning I had planned to do this week  just didn't happen.  I did fun stuff instead like take Boy to the movies and read some books.

8) The movie we took Boy to only played in 3D.  Unless we wanted to drive to a theatre 30 mins. away in another town, we could not see it in 2D.  That means we had to pay the $3 a person to see an already over-priced movie.  What a huge scam that is!   And we had to wear the stupid glasses.

9)  No Resolutions will be forthcoming from the Little Red Hen.  Like most people, I never keep them anyway.  Unless I make ones like: I will drink more wine;  I will not try to lose weight;  I am not going to exercise more; I am going to be more miserable to my fellow human beings.  But I don't think that's really the spirit of the whole resolution thing.
