Bee Balm (Variety Unknown)
I thought I had lost this plant; I didn't see it last year. Are they biennial? Anyway, she looks somewhat bedraggled, like she's had a rough night. It did rain quite heavily through the night so maybe it's worn her out.
Black-Eyed Susan
These are starting to get very pushy; I'll have to do some thinning in the fall.
Balloon Flower, I think
I almost didn't see this one; the Pushy Susans were crowding in on its space. Maybe I should move it out from under them.
Lilies- Oriental? Asiatic? I really am hopeless
For a few years, I have been plagued, as most gardeners in Southern Ontario, with nasty little Japanese beetles that only seem to eat Lilies. The flowers come up in the Spring, go into leaf and even get a little bud so you think that all is well and your lillies are going to bloom and then WHAM! the infestation starts. Those little bastards can strip a plant in no time.
I had read that spraying diluted Neem Oil on the plant and also the beasties would keep them away. I figured I had nothing to lose so the Neem was duly applied all surfaces of the plant and around the ground where the buggers hid out. It seemed to work as can be judged by the photo above. Or maybe they left of their own accord. Whatever the reason, I've got the best display of lillies I've had in years.
Too bad I won't be around to enjoy them.
Don't worry, I'm hopeless too.
ReplyDeleteMy monarda were really late flowering this year. Last year they were deep rose, this year they are a distinct purple, what gives?? My lilies didn't even come up this year, so sad.
