We have put our name and some money down on a list for a puppy. A Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier who may or may not look something like this:
Not the expectant mother - just some random internet dog |
We looked into this kind of dog 13 years ago when we were searching for a furry friend but at the time they cost a fortune. We couldn't afford such a posh dog then so we ended up with Gimpy Dog who, while being a pure-bred Lab, was kind of a farm dog and very cheap.
The Wheatens still cost a fortune but Himself is insistent this time. He's done his research too. Apparently, there are two different types of coats - North American, the more common one we see here, curlier and poofy and Irish, less common and scruffier. He wants the Irish one. I don't really care one way or the other.
We found a breeder in the next town who has Irish females she mates with North American males so it's a crap shoot what you end up with. We're hoping for an Irish female but we won't know until early December when the mother goes into her confinement.
So after Christmas, I'll have to start puppy-proofing the house. I only have a vague recollection of what's required in that department but I do know that Lego Boy will probably lose a few pieces of said Lego before he realizes that he has to tidy up his crap.
Then the fight to pick a name will begin.
Good luck grooming that! Lovely looking dogs but do they shed? I fear your hoover may be in for a meltdown.....
ReplyDeleteApparently the Irish require less grooming. They do lose hair but don't drop it so you have to brush it off.
ReplyDeleteHa! You know where to come for advice! I recommend getting as many chew-proof things as possible (although Ted never chewed so I guess it's really luck of the draw). As I type my crocs are being systematically demolished.... :-)
