New Year

The flip of the calender was a fairly low-key event chez Trouts. We wouldn't even bother about it but we think we should some how.

Since then, the Trouts and I had a very relaxing, almost slug-like holiday.  Himself had to go back to work on the 2nd so we were left to our own devices for a week.  Lego Boy watched tv morning to night, Pig-headed Girl was in her room watching internet porn reading or something, I puttered about not doing much of anything.  It was a good week.

I stopped making official resolutions years ago.  Now I just take a little time to reflect on the past year and decide what was good and what can be changed and what can fuck off altogether.

The Garden:  My veggie patch was an epic fail this year.  It started off well enough with minimal weeds and lots of things planted but it quickly became a nuisance.  Most things didn't germinate and what did got eaten by some bug;  with no rain for 8 weeks,  keeping the garden watered was a huge effort;  the weeds just took over.  The main problem is the distance away from the house - it's a 10 min. drive so I couldn't just pop over for a few minutes to pull the weeds.  When I went, it was for 2 hours and all I seemed to be doing was  weeding.  By August, it was serious getting on my nerves and after we came back from our holidays, I was finished with it altogether.  I only went back to collect my tomato cages and plant markers in October.  Since I was spending all my time at the veggie patch,  I could not stomach the thought of picking up a hoe or watering can to look after my garden at home so it was a mess too and that got on my nerves. I like the idea of growing some of my own veg but I'm going to try it at home this season and not take on the community plot.

Books: I read a lot of books but I don't record that I've read them or make any comment on them. I'm going to do that here periodically.

Speaking of which, my little blog needs a bit more attention.  I'm going to try to post more often even if it's only a picture.  And maybe some renovations.

Declutter: Not the shit that accumulates in the house but that might also happen as well.  But I need to get rid of attitudes, people and obligations that are not serving me well.  I'm getting too old to put up with bullshit.
