Girl went to Quebec City on a school trip in June 2008 which coincided with St. Jean-Baptiste Day. It was the city's 450th anniversary and there were lots of things going on - cultural stuff, historical stuff, all very Oldy Worldy.
She came back with loads of pictures and as we scrolled through them, we'd ask for the story behind the photo. And we got a very detailed explanation of the sights she saw.
"What's this?"
"Some guy dressed like a statue but then he moved and we screamed."
"What's this?"
"Some old street".
"What's this?"
"The Chateau Frontenac"
"What's this?"
"An excavation of some part of Old Quebec".
"What's this?"
"The Plains of Abraham."
Silence.
"I don't think so. It looks like a football field."
"No. It's the Plains of Abraham. The tour guide told us to look the left side of the bus and that's what was there."
Now, I have never been to Quebec City but I'm pretty sure that the place of the most decisive battle in Canadian history has not been turned into a football field. But Girl swore up and down that this was indeed the Plains of Abraham. We had to google it to prove that, no it was not the Plains of Abraham but in fact a bloody football field.
As we prepare to send Girl off to Italy and Greece for a school trip during March Break, I shudder to think what pictures she'll bring back.
We'll wait and see.
