Suck it up, princess

The festivities are all over, the fridge empty, the last of the Nanaimo bars thrown out and the decorations put away, just in the nick of time because they were starting to get on my nerves.  I'm sure I've missed two or three that seem to lurk in very odd places.

Girl and Boy have gone back to school muttering all the way.  Girl has had basketball practice every morning at 7:30 this week.  Sucks to be her. Swimming lessons start up again tonight.  Things are back in full swing.

We begin the long haul to spring and the return of the light.  I hate winter.  I've always hated winter.  I suppose I enjoyed it as a child, tobogganing and building snowmen and forts.  But I do have one memory of me in my blue one-piece snowmobile suit sitting in a snow bank, just sitting there because I was too cold and miserable to play. So no, I don't think I ever enjoyed winter.

I don't like being cold.  It's been cold here the last few days - minus 24 with the wind chill.  I can hear people in Ottawa or Montreal or Alberta saying suck it up, princess, that's nothing.  I know it's nothing.  It's not even that cold for here.  In a few weeks, it's liable to get down to minus 30 or more.  I don't like the snow.  Or the ice. Or the freezing drizzle (what exactly is freezing drizzle).  There is nothing about winter I  take  pleasure in.  So the time from now until March is a reeeeeally long time for me.

It has been suggested to me that I find something to do in the winter that will awaken me to the joys of the season,  like cross-country skiing or snowshoeing or ice skating on a frozen pond but will I?

Um, no.  I'll hunker down beside the fire with my knitting and a few dozen books and some dvds and wait for spring.
